Dianne Fehr, Immigrant Access Fund Canada, Named 2016 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award Finalist

diannefehrpicjune2013CALGARY, October 5, 2016 – Immigrant Access Fund Canada (IAF) is proud to announce that Dianne Fehr, Executive Director, has been named a Finalist for the 2016 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards for the Social Change Category. The RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards are the pre-eminent national business awards recognizing the country’s leading female entrepreneurs. The program is an initiative of Women of Influence, an award-winning organization dedicated to advancing Canadian women.

Out of 5,000 nominees, 18 Finalists from coast to coast have been selected to represent six Award Categories. The Social Change Award is dedicated to a female entrepreneur of a registered charity or not-for-profit that is dedicated to social change. Applicants have garnered extraordinary support from the community by being champions for philanthropy and volunteerism in Canada. Ms. Fehr is one of three Regional Finalists being recognized in this category representing the Western Region.

IAF is a national charity dedicated to helping skilled immigrants, including refugees, succeed in Canada’s labour market. IAF achieves this by providing micro loans of up to $10,000 for the costs of the licensing/training newcomers need to work in their field in Canada. IAF has seen tremendous growth, lending over $15 million to 2,400 immigrants since 2005. Over 75% of IAF’s borrowers who complete their licensing/training plan report being employed in their field at a job matching their skills and education. An independent study showed the IAF program acts as an economic stimulant, with a return on investment for Canada of at least 900%.

“It’s been a true honour to play a role in helping immigrants find success in Canada,” said Ms. Fehr. “I’m inspired every day by the stories of people who arrive here eager and motivated to contribute to our society and economy. Investing in newcomers is good for everyone. Their success is everyone’s success.”

The winners will be announced and celebrated at the 24th Annual Awards Gala, hosted by Diane Francis, editor-at-large for the Financial Post, on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
