Immigrant Access Fund is the most successful not-for-profit organization in Canada providing micro loans to relieve poverty among worthy newcomers by helping them get Canadian accreditation, upgrading or training that will allow them to obtain employment in their pre-immigration field.
It's a model that works and an organization that has the proven expertise to keep it working.

Why Invest?
It is critical that Canada's skilled immigrants be able to fully contribute their education, skills and experience to Canada's labour market. Our economy and our communities thrive when they do.
An engineer working in a convenience store will pay virtually no income tax and will not have the disposable income to purchase the goods and services that keep our economy rolling. That same engineer, after becoming accredited in Canada, will begin contributing to the economy through income tax and the consumption of the goods and services that will make a better life for his or her family. It’s about dollars. It’s also about sense.
Receiving a loan from IAF is generally the only way applicants--who are typically unemployed, or employed in survival jobs--are able to pay for the exams, courses, professional assocation fees, assessment fees, etc. they need in order to obtain the Canadian accreditation or training they need to work in their field. IAF lends to immigrants unable to access mainstream credit. IAF loans are character-based. Applicants do not need collateral, they do not need to have a credit history in Canada, and they do not need to be employed. Interest is a reasonable 1.5% above prime, and terms and conditions help to ensure loan recipients' success.
